Blogging is something you shouldn’t do at work, but what the hell...

I’m sitting at work waiting for the last 30 minutes to pass. It’s only Tuesday, but feels like it should be Friday. I’m not one to wish my life away, but seriously I have a 3 day weekend coming up. I’m trying to decide if I want to go to Sleaze Ball on Saturday. Part of me wants to go to a really big gay party and the other part of me is all like, why the fuck would you want to do that? I’m sure I would have fun (for about 2 or 3 hours!). I guess I need to figure it out quick...but that’s the thing I hate about the Sydney gay scene, it’s mostly event driven...so, it’s all about planning and the event.

I hate planning my fun.

But still, it does sound like a lot of fun.

Folsom Street Fair

Who would have thought that a silly little thing like a fetish street fair would make me miss home? The first time I went to Folsom Street Fair was in 2000, shortly after I had moved to San Francisco. I was terrified. I had never seen such an open display of flesh and hair! I don't have any fetishes, but I am mesmerised by people who do...is that a fetish? What I was confronted with at Folsom was pure masculine energy, and it was very overwhelming. Gays come in all shapes and sizes, but this was a whole new experience for me, and a profound one at that. So much so that it consumed my art practice for years, really on up until I moved.

Some of the best times I've ever had in San Francisco was at Folsom Street Fair. Hanging outside the Powerhouse on Dore Alley watching men do things to each other was enlightening. Men are pigs.

To all my friends on Folsom Street today, I miss guys.

Mars

When the alarm went off this morning at 5:30 I realised that it was darker than normal. It was raining when I went to bed the night before, so I assumed that it was cloudy or foggy, or still raining. When I got up at 6:00, I still wasn't able to see the lights from the adjacent buildings, so knew there must be fog, but noticed that there was a reddish colour. I immediately assumed that there must be a building on fire, surely it wasn't glow from a surrounding bushfire? My partner turned on the morning news (as usual) and the first story said that the city was engulfed in a dust storm. It is absolutely one of the oddest things I've ever seen. Apparently, these storms are common further inland, but rarely make it to the coast, and never (if ever) in Sydney. For some really great images, check out this site and this one. They are amazing.
I imagine this is what the sky will look like to future humans if we ever make it to Mars.

Well kids...

it has been one of those weeks - and I don't mean in a bad way...just one of those weeks that drags on and on and on and on and...you know what I mean?

The good news is spring has sprung. Bad news for my allergies, but I was seriously over the cold weather and short daylight hours. Going through winter depression in July was not fun...note to self, next July go to the western hemisphere for a month.

Mary of Peter, Paul and Mary passed away today. I saw Peter, Paul and Mary in 1986ish. They were fantastic. Puff the Magic Dragon and all...the only other thing I remember that evening is that I ended up spending the night in my car. I think I locked myself out of my apartment.

Henry Gibson passed away today too. I love(d) Henry Gibson. As a very young child, he was a beacon I discovered on Laugh-In and rediscovered as an adult on Boston Legal.

Shine on Mary and Henry.

Someone Else's Culture

I had a meeting in Rozelle at the end of the day, which went very well I must say. I got the bus home. When it was my stop, I got up (as one would do) and the ass in front of me mumbled under its breath, "goddamn faggot." I was too tired to get into it with anyone, but I was completely taken by surprise. I haven't been called a faggot in a while (by a non-faggot), well there was that nutty speed freak a couple of months ago...seriously, I have no idea what this ass's prob was. It wasn't like I was knitting a jumper! Funny thing is that I didn't even notice the ass until it opened its gab...anyway, it's odd being called a faggot in someone else's culture.

Now that I got that off my chest...here's what other asses in the world are doing.

B12 Shot?

Or maybe just a shot. Stayed out a little too late last night, my head hurts. Bloody Mary, anyone?

In other news...

Have I mentioned lately how completely nutty (creepy?) the Republican party is?

A few thoughts...

I think I would have liked District 9 a lot more had it not been for the couple behind me chatting and chomping popcorn throughout the entire fucking movie! I guess I could have moved. Still, there was something missing. People talk about it being "raw." I don't think it was "raw" enough. But it did have it's moments...perhaps I'll watch it again on DVD and have a different experience...?

Watched Real Time with Bill Maher tonight. He had Bill Moyers on discussing health care. Sad. It sounds like Obama has dropped the ball; rather, he has lost control of the narrative. Or, perhaps he has been bought out by big money...?

The time of year is throwing me off. I can't believe it is September. Well, I actually can believe it is September, but I can't believe it is spring. I'm not complaining. Well, my allergies are sending me over the edge, so I am complaining. But man, it is nice that the days are getting longer...!
