what a difference a week can make

I had forgotten how flaky Americans can be, er perhaps it is just gays...? And I include myself in that too. Living out of this environment has made 'see' it. Americans are really selfish and neurotic. Something I hadn't really thought about before. Of course this was amplified by being here over Gay Pride and drinking mass quantities of alcohol. A week ago I was so sure I wanted to come back, now, I don't know. It all started with that asshole border guard at LAX...the entire trip has been bitter sweet.

vodka, vodka and more vodka

Seriously. I might as well have been swimming in a pool of vodka last night. However, I didn't get messy.

Gawd, I miss this town.

home

We are arrived last night, flight was good. But what the fuck is up with border security? Apparently, they don't like it when 2 men travel together and pack  in the same suitcase. Not playing the victim here, but curious if straight couples get a lecture when they travel together?

How many 'family' members are you traveling with? Seriously.

nfdu PROJECTS presents Sarah! Sarah! Sarah!

The ten artists in this exhibition accepted an invitation to create a work of art using Sarah Palin as its theme. As this project has unfolded over the past three months, I have learned two things from these artists: Sarah Palin can not be taken seriously and Sarah Palin is a disturbing political force. These two states are reflected in each of the artworks in the exhibit. The viewer is presented with a joke or one-liner that is easily absorbed while also being shown the dark reality of arrogance, specifically the arrogance of political ambition, and thereby given the opportunity to ponder the implications of those simultaneous states. Sarah Palin is at once entertaining and repulsive.

so. like. it's been one of those weeks...

omg. we leave in 3 days for SF. needing a break. seriously. (b/c my life is so hard).

Sarah! Sarah! Sarah! is almost finished. As usual, towards the end of anything related to closure, I become over it. I've had a few people drop out, which is fine. but makes me wonder what the hell they were they thinking anyway? If they happen to be reading this, then they will feel guilty.

gag. I need to finish the intro...

one should never blog whilst hung over and drinking, ...

but what the fuck.

Anyhoo, I went out with workfolk yesterday and let's just say that I drank more than I usually drink, which means that I drank a fucking hell of a whole lot. I didn't eat dinner either, so if you've ever been drinking with me, then you know what I'm talking about, okay? It was one of those evenings where time stands still, and, then, the next thing you know, it's 4am.

Oy.

By the way, the martini, I'm sucking down, is delicious. Which reminds me, have you seen the new Lady Gaga video? Shit. Christ. Jesus. This woman makes me wish I was 30 years younger, just so I could see how it all turns out...

sf bound in a few weeks

I'm going to be in San Francisco in a few weeks and I'm looking very forward to it. I need a break. The trip is going to short, but it will be good to see friends and get out of southern winter for a bit. Last week I mentioned that I was going to look for a new job. I've decided to stick around (again) and see how things go. I was feeling as though I was in free fall mode and wasn't sure how to stop it. Things have stabilized, for now.

Speaking of rain (non sequitur), I've come to the conclusion that all it does in Sydney is rain and rain and rain. It rained all summer and now it appears it is going to rain all winter. People have said this is a bit unusual, but I no longer believe them. In the (almost) two years I have been here, I have seen more rain than I've seen in the past 12 years collectively. Eastern Washington is one of the most arid places on the planet, and the Bay Area is cold and foggy, but despite what people say, it doesn't rain that much except from November to March, and that's pretty much it. One year we went went 6 or 7 months without rain at all - it is things like that that I really miss.

laurie anderson

I went to the Laurie Anderson concert last night at the Drama Theatre located in the Opera House. It was great. I've seen her do variations on most of the selections a couple of times before, but this performance was best. The only thing I found annoying was I had to go pee around the last 10 minutes, so I dashed out and back in only to discover she was wrapping up with some 9/11 bit, which kind of annoyed me. Not that she went there, but that she chose to end there. I mean, it's been 10 years ago - seems like this should have been a point of intermission, not ending. Anyway, that's my only criticism. It could be my experience with discussing 9/11 with Australians and how they tip toe around the topic. I'm like, it happened. It was horrible. Can we move on now and talk about the war?
